The county of Caithness, in the far North of Scotland, set against
a backdrop of big seas and skies is also a county with big opportunities
for the outdoor enthusiast.
In
Caithness, you're never far from water, be it sea, loch or river,
and whether you're in it, on it or just enjoying the watching, it
has enduring appeal which draws many visitors back time and time
again. |

The
town of Thurso dates back to the Viking times and has long been
one of the largest towns in the north of Scotland. Indeed Campbell
Caravans can be found on the borders of the town, facing the sea,
with superb views of the Orkney Isles. The other main feature is
Scrabster Harbour, Scotland's major fishing port in the North, and
just one of many picturesque havens to be found around the Caithness
coast.

(Castle of Mey)
|
Both
social and natural history figure strongly in the Caithness landscape
such as the Castle of Mey - former summer residence of Queen Elizabeth
the Queen Mother for many years. The castle is now open to the public.
Over 30 thousand visitors are expected! For the casual observer
and expert alike, there's a wealth of wildlife to be discovered.

The
Caithness cliffs are home to vast seabird colonies in the summer,
whilst during migration periods thousands of wildfowl can be seen
as they move between their wintering or breeding grounds.
Our
shores are home to plentiful numbers of seals and just like the
red deer on the southern hills - they're not difficult to see. For
the outdoor sports enthusiast, Caithness caters for a wide range
of activities.

(Water Mill)

The
area offers top quality angling for salmon, sea and brown trout.

Add to this the best surfing in Europe to be found at Thurso itself,
previous hosts of the European Surfing Championships and the World
Kayak Championships, also with a number of other good sites
on the north and east coasts.
Other
local activities include;
Golf - Excellent 18 hole courses at Wick, Thurso, Royal Dornoch, Reay, and Reiss Golf
courses all can be found just a short drive away.
Walks - With many excellent walks all around the local area, including
many hill walks, don't hesitate to ask once you arrive.
Mountain
Biking - There are some great tracks locally, suiting
all abilities, whether you prefer cycling around Thurso, or
through the local forests. Bike hire is available in Thurso.
Pony
Trekking - treks, hacks or lessons, with many local centres,
just ask once you arrive.
Boating - Organised sea angling boat trips and also Loch fishing boats are available for hire.
With
all of these fantastic activities available, a potential of
a holiday in Caithness can be quickly appreciated. We are
also confident that our visitors will appreciate the convenience
of a base at Campbell Caravans, the Thurso Municipal Site.
It has all the facilities and features you could need, such
as those below.
The
